1Why the name matters more than its length

A licence name is a lookup key. Apache 2.0 resolves to a document that has been read by thousands of people and argued about in public for two decades, so the name is enough. A name built out of a company and a product resolves to one document, read by whoever needed to read it.

That is the whole practical difference here. Both are published weights and both can be downloaded today. Only one of them can be assessed by recognising a string.

2What the register records and what it refuses to

The entry holds the tag and a link to the page it was read from. It does not hold a paraphrase of the terms, because a paraphrase is the part a reader would quote later and the part this register cannot stand behind.
