CogVideoX licences its two sizes differently

Inside one repository, CogVideoX-2B is Apache 2.0 while CogVideoX-5B carries a licence of the project's own. Checking the small model settles nothing about the large one, and the repository badge shows one of the two. As of 2026-09-12.

Inclusion rule. The value this page is about, the detail the vendor attached to it, and the two columns that change how it should be read. A column the vendor left empty keeps its row and says so. Order. This column first, then its detail, then the two columns that qualify it.

1A licence is a property of a release, and here it shows

Most families in the register publish several sizes under one set of terms, which makes the shorthand safe: the family is Apache 2.0. Here the shorthand is false for one of the two published models.

Nothing about that is hidden. It is simply invisible to anyone who read the badge, downloaded whichever checkpoint the quickstart pointed at, and moved on.

2Which of the two a plan actually needs

The two are not interchangeable. The 2B model is the one with the low memory figure, from 4GB in FP16, and it is also the one under the standard licence. The 5B and the 1.5-5B ask for more memory and carry the project's own terms.

So the cheaper model to run is also the cheaper model to clear. That alignment is convenient and it is worth knowing it is a coincidence rather than a pattern.

3What the register does with a split cell

The cell holds both halves and names the model each half belongs to. Collapsing it to the more permissive of the two would make the entry shorter and wrong in the direction that costs somebody money.

Collapsing it to the stricter half would be wrong in the other direction, and would discourage use of a model that really is under standard terms. Both halves stay.
